Ambiani — Æ unit — Horned Head with Snakes — c. 60 -40 BCE

OBVERSE:
Horse right with head raised, Raven-like bird above (perhaps representing Cathubodua, the battle crow inciting the horse to battle) with sharp beak and claws sitting on rump, S-shape in front, pellet in circle between legs, beaded border
REVERSE:
Facing head with prominent nose, wearing horned or feathered head-dress, snake-like curls on either side, beaded border, lines radiating from chin
GRADE: Good VF; 2.58 gm; 15 mm; olive-green patina

DLT-, BN 8411, BMC-, Sheers series 66, fig. 371, DT 400; Extremely Rare
COMMENT:

Only six are recorded, 2 in museums in Paris and Berlin; this perhaps the best of the lot. The horse is on the convex side of the coin, traditionally the obverse.
